CHAS and Human Focus launch online training initiative to help contractors comply with their health & safety training needs

CHAS, in partnership with Human Focus, are launching an online training initiative to help contractors achieve the necessary health and safety qualifications for CHAS approval. This new initiative will reduce the training burden on contractors by enabling them to access the large library of industry approved online contractor health and safety e-Learning courses provided by Human Focus. This development will make it easier for CHAS contractors to complete their annual assessment whilst reducing training costs.

One of the biggest burdens and cost on contractors gaining CHAS approval is putting in place the necessary health and safety training. Small and medium sized contractors face a particular challenge in this respect as they do not have the scale of operation for their own internal training department. Typically, they have to send staff away on public courses which are expensive, disruptive and difficult to arrange at short notice.

CHAS contractors will now have the option of training their employees online via Human Focus contractor e-Learning courses at significantly lower cost and far greater convenience. The health and safety courses on offer are independently approved and industry standard - they include:

  • UKATA Asbestos Awareness
  • IOSH courses including Managing Safely and Working Safely
  • Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) - Legionella for Duty Holders and Legionella Awareness
  • CDM for Duty Holders and CDM Awareness - RoSPA approved

The per trainee fee for these recognised e-Learning courses are lower cost than the equivalent classroom option as well as being more convenient to take. Where there is an urgent need for training to complete a CHAS approval the required courses can now be completed straight away at the employee's convenience.

Human Focus will be working closely with CHAS to make this training initiative easy to access and a seamless part of the annual approval process. For example, CHAS will be providing an online portal to make it easy to decide which courses are required and how to access them. There will also be a free training advisory helpline to guide contractors to the most cost-effective option.
